Major target plans to visit VT soon
A big visit is coming from one of Virginia Tech's top recruiting targets. When is the prospect planning to make his way to Blacksburg?
"We're going to Virginia Tech next weekend, the first weekend of April," Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside cornerback Demetrious Nicholson said. "I grew up a fan of Virginia Tech. I haven't heard too much from them recently, but I've got to go on a visit and reunite. I want to get up to date and see what's going on with their school once I visit the campus. I want to see if it'll have some effect on me, what I like about them and how it's going to go if I'd want to commit there."
An important factor for Nicholson all along has been playing time, what does he think about the Hokies in that respect?
"I don't know. I think I can still go and compete against anyone at that spot. I don't know how many cornerbacks they've offered," he said. "I'm looking forward to checking that out.
"I can say I like Virginia Tech. I'm from Virginia. Virginia Tech is my in-state school along with Virginia. It feel good about the idea of playing for my state since I'm from Virginia."
While the Hokies are in the picture, Nicholson recently returned from a trip to North Carolina last week.
"We watched them practice and walked around," he said. "I got to see more detail from the campus. I went deeper into the school then the junior day there. I enjoyed it out there.
"The thing that impressed me was that after this year they have three players from the secondary going into the league, two corners and one safety. The other corners have to compete and they don't have a third corner. They offered two, me and another guy from Florida. The other guy committed and they are waiting on my commitment."
Is Nicholson considering a decision soon?
"I want to," he said. "I want to get it over with. I'm not ready for that. I think it'll be over the summer before next season starts."
It's believed Nicholson is favoring the Tar Heels. Is that fair?
"You can say that, again, my options are open," he said. "I like them a lot."
Aside from a trip to Tech in the near future, Nicholson confirmed plans to head to Clemson, West Virginia, Maryland and back to North Carolina over the course of April.
"I just want to go on these visits and see how it is there," he said. "I want to see how I'd fit in since I'll be there the next three to four years. I want to enjoy myself in college. I know I'll be doing academics and play sports. I want to see how I fit in and if they fit my vibe. I'm not a party person, I'm just chill."
In the meantime, new offers continue to come in as well.
"I just recently got Boston College, East Carolina, Michigan, Connecticut and Louisville," he said. "I'm up to 15 scholarships. I have a lot of options out there and I've got to find who can offer the best fit and situation for me."
