Clay surprises even the Sooner coaches
There is no denying that San Diego Scripps Ranch running back Brennan Clay has been a tough guy to read throughout his recruitment. So it should come as no surprise that his recruitment would catch everyone off guard both in timing and in location.
Exactly a month to the day since picking up his official offer from Oklahoma the nation's No. 41 overall player has cast his lot with the Oklahoma Sooners.
The 6-foot, 190-pound running back called Sooner assistant coach Cale Gundy and gave him the good news today. Not surprisingly Gundy was as shocked as the rest of the recruiting world to hear that he had landed the nation's No. 2 all-purpose back.
"I kind of misled him earlier in the week," Clay said. "I wanted to make it a full on surprise but I told him I was narrowing decisions down. I think he thought it was going to be a top three, top five kind of deal.
"When I told him I was committing I think he said four or five times how excited he was. I'm pretty sure he has a great feeling going through his spine still."
