Butler, Ruoff pace WVU past Elon, 92-47

WVSports.com MORGANTOWN--Led by 19 points apiece from Da'Sean Butler and Alex Ruoff, the WVU men's basketball team defeated Elon 92-47 to open its 2008-2009 regular season. The Mountaineers were tested early by the Phoenix, which remained within striking distance for much of the first half. But WVU outscored Elon 54-20 after halftime for the win. Returning to his home state, Elon head coach Ernie Nestor's players were eager to face their counterparts from the Big East Conference. The Philippi native saw his squad convert 55 percent of its field goal opportunities in the first half, which allowed Elon to remain within three points of the Mountaineers with under seven minutes to play before halftime.
