Insider: Buehler's bum quad, Booty's confidence
If David Buehler were to take three weeks off, he probably could come back and start booming touchbacks again. But the kicker's strained right quadriceps got worse during the season opener against Idaho, and - as long as he kicks - it is not likely to get better.
Buehler figured to give USC a major advantage in 2007. When healthy, he is one of the few players who still can send kickoffs into the end zone consistently, even though the NCAA pushed tees back to the 30-yard line.
He forced Idaho into four touchbacks on his seven opening-day kickoffs. In the 24 kicks since, he has one touchback.
