Extra Points: Bearcats Keep Victory Bell
Bearcats Keep Victory Bell-With the Bearcats winning Saturday, they keep the Victory Bell in Clifton for another year. It marks the first time since 1999 and 2000 that UC has won back-to-back years in the series. And, it's the first time since 1999 that the Bearcats have won in Oxford. The Redhawks still lead the all-time series 59-46-7.
The effort was not lost on Coach Brian Kelly . "We talked all week about the separation of being enthusiastic and playing emotional. We have too many rivalry games to be emotional. We have to play at a consistent level. And it is so important that when we come out and play in a game like this that we are businesslike in everything we do," Kelly said. "That was really the tone all week and I thought our kids went out there and played hard and executed in a businesslike fashion for four quarters."
The 47 points scored by the Bearcats were the most given up by Miami since November 23, 2002 when they allowed 48 to Central Florida.
Mauk Not Ready-Ben Mauk did not make the start Saturday due to what Coach Kelly described as a "tired shoulder." "He just didn't have the zip on the ball and I didn't like the way the ball was hanging out during the week on some perimeter throws," Kelly said. "And we have other guys in the bullpen that can play a little bit."
