Will Mauk Be Ready?
As the Bearcats get ready for the upcoming season one of the biggest questions heading into fall camp is who will be the starting quarterback to start the season.
When Ben Mauk announced that he was going to transfer to Cincinnati from Wake Forest many thought that he would come in an immediately become the starting quarterback. However, that is simply not the case.
Coming into training camp Mauk is listed as the 3rd string quarterback behind starter Dustin Grutza and backup Craig Carey. The main reason why Mauk is listed 3rd on the depth chart is because the Cincinnati coaching staff has not been able to evaluate Mauk on the field.
Mauk, who arrived on campus back in May, has not yet fully recovered from his season ending arm injury that he suffered while playing for Wake Forest last season.
"He still has a long way to go," said Haruki Nakamura. "He is out there working with us, but his arm strength is not close to what he needs. Once he gets it back he will be able to compete, but he is still a ways away."
So the question remains, will Mauk be ready for the start of the regular season?
