Memphis LB gets Ole Miss offer
It appears that Ed Orgeron will have to pull out his fence building material again in 2008 as the Rebels are going after most of the top talent in the city of Memphis for the third straight year.
2008 seems more promising than 07 and one of the top linebackers in the Bluff city is DeAundre Jones of Memphis University School.
Jones, an outside linebacker that is listed at 6-foot-1, 220-pounds and runs a 4.6 forty, led his team in tackles last fall with 68 tackles, 13 for losses, 2 sacks, 4 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Jones recently picked up his first D1 offer when he received the news from his high school coach that Ole Miss had offered.
"It feels great to get that first offer," Jones said Monday. "I was very happy and somewhat surprised how early it came. Ole Miss is a great school."
Jones got the opportunity to attend last years Ole Miss vs. Georgia game and was very impressed with everything he saw on his trip.
"Ole Miss has a very nice campus," Jones said. "The facilities were great; I loved the weight room and the indoor practice area. It was a great game day atmosphere and the Rebels almost pulled off the upset."
Jones was also impressed with head coach Ed Orgeron and his recruiting coach Hugh Freeze.
"Coach Orgeron is such an easy person to like," Jones said. "Great personality, incredible energy and he can get you really fired up. Coach Freeze is easy to get a long with as well; he seems to really care about you."
Jones currently has Georgia Tech out front as his favorite followed by a group that includes Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia and Vanderbilt.
Jones appears to have no problems in the classroom. The standout defender is holding a 3.5 G.P.A. and will both test for the first time next month.
