Mustain granted release
Arkansas coach Houston Nutt was approached by rising sophomore quarterback Mitch Mustain on Tuesday requesting his release from the University.
Mustain came to Arkansas with former Springdale (Ark.) High School coach Gus Malzahn as part of the 2006 signing class when Malzahn was named offensive coordinator. Mustain was a five-star prospect, had over 30 scholarship offers and was one of the nation's premier recruits. Malzahn recently took a job at Tulsa and left the UA program.
"Naturally, I don't want him to go. I want him to stay here, but also we want the ones who really want to be here. So, I've given him his release, and now let's just see," Nutt said. "I hope he stays here. He's 8-and-0 as a starter. I think he did a wonderful job. Very few freshmen can do some of the things that he's done. He was put in a very difficult situation, and I'm very proud of him. He has to make the call. He has to feel good about it. He has to want to be here, and we have to see what happens.
"I haven't put any boundaries, he wanted a release, I granted a release. Has he told me for sure he's transferring, no."
