OU's Finley jumps into the fray
It was four years in the making, but the Sooners finally, finally got the tight end involved in the offense. Joe Jon Finley's four receptions for 79 yards led all receivers Saturday night against UAB. Finley also accounted for the only touchdown by a receiver in OU's 24-17 escape of the other Brown brother.
Finley was an unknown commodity on the Oklahoma roster outside of the Sooner state, but Paul Thompson should have nothing but confidence in the junior tight end.
Not only did Thompson complete his first touchdown pass of the season to Finley, but the talented tight end was also there to haul in a prayer from Thompson later in the first quarter as he was falling to the ground.
"That one made me feel like, 'Here we go, let's do it.' That one definitely was a big play," said Thompson.
From there, Thompson found himself in a comfort zone. Sure, he had a couple of throws which ended up being intercepted, but Finley's receptions helped put Thompson in a position where he felt comfortable under center.
