Jordy Nelson entered the 2005 season as a virtual unknown in the Big 12 Conference. A converted defensive back, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Nelson caught a touchdown in the season opener against Florida International, an innocent enough start.

A touchdown grab against Texas A&M on Oct. 22 represented his seventh straight game with a touchdown catch, showing why Nelson was suddenly a well-recognized threat throughout the conference.

The Story:
Everyone close to the Wildcat program knew the Riley, Kan., product had the of size and speed of a prototypical standout wide receiver, but Nelson lacked experience, particularly on offense, heading into 2005.

Nelson became a productive part of the offense perhaps even quicker than the most passionate K-State fan would have expected, finishing the year with 45 catches for 669 yards and eight touchdowns.

Named a second-team All-Big 12 member by the Kansas City Star, Nelson caught 10 passes for more than 20 yards while averaging 14.9 yards per catch and showed his big-play potential with touchdown grabs of 73 yards at Oklahoma and 80 yards on the road against Texas Tech.
