Doege shines at mini-camp
WITT FOR 2007? DOEGE FOR 2008?
With Texas Tech offering Wylie (TX) quarterback Patrick Witt for this year's current class after seeing him at camp it didn't take long to get to work on a potential offer for 2008.
Frenship's Seth Doege attended the mini-camp Saturday with his dad who will coach the offensive line at Frenship next year and even though Doege didn't go through testing he might have been the best player in attendance.
Doege had his knee scoped several weeks back and even though nothing needed correcting in his knee he's still trying to take it easy which kept him from running.
"They released me to do lateral drills and I go back in a week and I'll know if they release me for good which is why I didn't test today," Doege said. "If anything (his knee injury) its gotten me stronger and gotten my work ethic in order."
Doege is currently 6-foot-2 and 200-pounds and has the arm strength and quick release that every major school is going to look for, including Texas Tech.
"I like to throw the ball around and I like to compete."
Several of Tech's coaches pulled Doege aside including Mike Leach who also spoke with Doege's dad at length after the camp concluded.
Players for the 2008 class cannot be officially offered until September 1st.
If the Red Raiders do offer what would happen?
"I've always dreamed of going to Tech, my daddy used to bring me to the games and I've always wanted to wear a Tech uniform. This offense throws the ball around and gives you the freedom to make some decisions. I'm just going to have fun and see what happens and try to win two state championships."
